Discussion
The words used by both us Americans and you Costa Ricans all demonstrate that family is an important part of life. The words used were very similar. Words like "love, support, valuable, essential/fundamental, and being always there for each other ("enquien podemos confiar"), all show positive aspects of family. I have concluded that both Costa Ricans and Americans find family very important, and that love is the basis of family.
Costa Ricans view family as a necessary and important part of society. The words love and important were the most commonly found word associations.
Americans also view family as a vital part of life. The family is compiled of brothers, sisters, and parents that all love each other. Every single person in the family is important.
Both Costa Ricans and Americans associate possitive feelings towards their family. Families are loving and supportive in both cultures.
The American students associated parents and brothers and sisters with the word family, while the Costa Ricans, however, associated social class with family, such as poor and wealthy.
