You’re at the restaurant in the evening with a friend. Your friend puts their phone on the table and texts during a good part of the meal.

  • Again since i can probably relate to my friend more than a stranger i would be more confrontational and tell her to put it down.
  • I'd ask if they could put their phone away. Or just make them pay for dinner.
  • I'd be quite put off by his rudeness, and would gently suggest that he put his phone away. And probably wouldn't go to dinner with him again.
  • I calmly explain that his/her actions were rude.
  • I continue eating and trying to talk with my friend.
  • I let him pay the bill
  • I really would hate this. I would probably say something about it as soon as I noticed it.
  • It's hard for me to imagine a friend of mine doing this, but I think I would ask them to stop for the duration of the dinner.
  • I tell them it's rude and confiscate it.
  • It might bother me a little, but it might be an important conversation so I would respect that they need to have their phone out.
  • I would ask him how he would feel if we stopped being friends.
  • I would ask if they not use their phone so much unless if it was a family emergency or anything like that.
  • I would ask the friend if there was any way the texts could wait for another time. If they were emergency situations, I would be more than understanding of the texting at the table, but if not, I would respect myself enough to ask that my friend not ignore me to instead commit to the temptation of technology and social media.
  • I would ask them to put it in the middle and make a game out of it.
  • I would call them out for being completely unengaging.
  • I would call them out on it, depending on how close I was with the friend.
  • I would let my friend text if that's what he wants to do.
  • I would look around and enjoy my food. I would not talk to my friend about it. Instead, I would not go out to meals with this friend--a real friend would be present and would want to talk to me.
  • I would make a mental note not to go out with that person again.
  • I would make him or her pay for the meal
  • I would probably also go on my phone. Or I would just let them text while I ate.
  • I would tell him to put the phone away. My time is just as valuable as his, and using his phone would be a violation of our time together.
  • I would tell them to put their phone away confidently.
  • Might feel ignored, but would probably be fine
  • Muse about humanity's obsessive attachment to technology over the human connection, then direct friend realize the phone usage and see if a personal conversation could instead replace it.
  • Probably nothing because, sadly, this is a pretty normal thing these days.
  • Tell them to put it down
  • c'est plus mon amie
  • Cela me dérange car j'ai l'impression d'être à l'écart.
  • Dans ce cas ce n'est pas mon ami.
  • Faire une remarque en mode blague.
  • Frustration
