Discussion
I think that's pretty representative (in a very broad sense) of the way the French and the Americans think. The Americans care more about their individuality and having a say on the decisions, while the French care more about collective values such as well-being and a good work environment. Seems to me like many things in the 2 countries work that way: the goverment, the schooling, etc.
I also believe that the reason why you see so many responces that correspond to the boss' intelect might also have something to do with how you view yourself waiting for a company with an unworthy superior. I don't know about everyone else, but I prefer to work under someone you can respect for his accomplishments, than for someone who I don't really think belongs in that leadership position that makes decisions about my career.
Again, I feel like Americans managed to mention their feelings. A boss should be understanding while the French focused more on how his work should actually be. He should have done the work of his employees but has done it better and can provide positive criticism. I agree with Giorgio. You want a boss that is well qualified and is someone you can look up to not someone who is not involved or aware of what is happening. In most jobs in France, do people have direct relations with their boss? Is the boss often present and easily approachable?
