Hello, I noticed that students at both Lille 3 and at MIT find it important to know when to stop studying and start playing. However, that appears a lot less then words like "study" which make me think that studying is considered more important. A large difference that I noticed between the two sets of responses is that american students put a lot of emphasis on attending class and respect their teacher. The french students, however, do not mention attending class, and rather than respecting teacher, there is a large emphasis on independence and self-governing. Is it important to attend classes in France? Is attendance required? What kind of relationship exists between students and professors?

En France, la présence aux cours est naturellement requise mais on peut se permettre d'être absent aux cours magistraux, ce qui permet à un nombre important d'exercer une activité professionnelle pour financer ses études. La présence est requise pour les séances de travaux dirigs où les étudiants travaillent en plus petit groupe
Je pense que les étudiants français ne mentionnent pas l'idée de respect du professeur car il est déjà acquis, la notion d'autonomie et d'indépendance à l'université en sont responsables. Concernant les rapports entre étudiants et professeurs, j'ai l'impression qu'ils se développent nettement plus vers la troisième année de licence voire la première année de Master où les effectifs sont plus réduits et les travaux plus suivis par les professeurs.
Avez-vous une obligation de présence en cours aux Etats Unis, pourquoi insistez vous tant sur la notion de respect du professeur, y-a-t-il beaucoup eut de comportements irrespectueux dans les univesités américaines ?
