Does Frace recieve many refugees from other contries? The responses seem to indicate that war and conflict that displaces many people is somewhat in the forefront of peoples minds.

Pour répondre à ta question, je pourrais dire que les français reçoivent plusieurs étrangers. Et  comme tu as  bien su le constater plusieurs personnes pensent que les gens se déplacent juste à cause de guerre, de conflits, de pauvreté et de difficultés.  Très peu sont les personnes qui pensent que  l’on peut se déplacer pas parce qu’on le veut mais justement parce qu’on n’a pas le choix. Ce choix peut être un choix banal comme une formation qui n’existe pas dans ton pays, un métier que tu aimes et que tu ne peux exercer chez toi alors tu pars. Toute immigration n’est pas que profito-situationniste je trouve alors dommage que tout le monde ramène souvent  l’immigration  à cela.

I don't know how things are shown in France, but here it seems that when the media mentions anything about France and immigration, they show the stories of refugees and people who had no choice. They seem to ignore the fact that people do go to other places, because of the opportunities there that were not available in their home country and not always for the sake of their safety. I think it is odd that we do that here especially since this country was founded on immigrants seeking new opportunities and is known as a "land of opportunity."

How much of an issue is illegal immigration? Is it as big of an issue as it is in the US? 

The degree of permanent settlement of immigrants is something interesting to look into further, partially noted by our friend, Sambala.  I think in the States, the vast majority of immigrants come and stay till the end.  Is it the same case in France?  Or is it more common for someone (outside of the European Union) to come to France for a limited amount of time--to work or study for a few years--and return to their home country?  Do you feel many or most immigrants come to France with the intention of staying for life?

I think the stories that are highlighted in the news are not the story of many common immigrants. While the U.S. still has a fairly steady influx of immigrants who come to study or work, from international students to people who are experienced workers, in the news, all we see are stories of illegal immigrants. 

In the US, immigration seems to be a big issue politically, and many people are angry about it. Is there this much hostility in France? While I think some Americans have many issues surrounding the topic of immigration, the word "war" was not used, but "guerre" was used many times.

Je pense que la France a pu s’échapper aux problèmes de l'immigration clandestine grâce à son emplacement géographique au sein de l'UE.

Pour te dire la vérité Christophe beaucoup d'étudiants étrangers se servent maintenant de la France comme un tremplin. Ceux qui rentrent chez eux par la suite où qui rejoignent des pays plus développés comme les USA, le CANADA ou l'Angleterre, sont beaucoup plus nombreux. Parfois ces pays que je viens de te citer proposent un meilleur salaire pour le même poste que l'on recherche ici. Et je pensent également qu'ils offrent une meilleure politique d'immigration.

Je suis d'accord avec Pape, généralement les gens viennent en France le plus souvent pour les études parce que qu'elles sont moins chères ou pour l'utiliser comme un tremplin. Sinon pour ce qui est de se faire de l'argent ils ont plutôt le regard rivé vers d'autres contrés comme les U.S.A  parce que la France n'est pas un "land of opportunity", on a comme l'impression que tout est figé.

What do you mean that France has been able to escape the problems of illegal immigrants because of it's location. Do other countries within the European Union have a greater problem with illegal immigrants?

La France a rendu les choses plus difficile pour ceux qui veulent y venir d'une manière illégale(les papiers demandés,ce n'est pas facile d'avoir le visa aussi).

Il ya des pays européens qui galère plus avec le problème d'immigration illégale comme par exemple l'Italie et l'Espagne vu leurs emplacements géographiques.
