Apparently
there was some confusion with regards to this sentence. The American
students thought of a good job as an occupation, while the French
students thought of “bon travail” as a job well done job. To the French
students, what are characteristics of a good occupation? Some of you
said “well paying” and “done for pleasure.” Is there anything else you
would like to add/change? I thought that it was interesting that the
American students responded in the same way.
I
think the French students used the word "travail" as "chore",
"project", "task", while the American students used the word "job" as
"employment". A lot of the American answers refer to money or enjoyable
jobs. On the French side, the dominant idea is that a good job is a job
well done.
I do not think there was some confusion regarding the
sentence. Maybe this was meant in order to illustrate differences
betwenen the languages. What do you think?
To
Americans, salary is probably the most important aspect of a job. How
good you are at your job is also measured by how well you're paid. It's
definitley an unfair measure and probably not the best measure.
However, it is commonly accepted by society to measure your success at
your job by your salary.

réponse à Maggie, je suis pas d'accord de dire que le salaire est le
critère de travail. Un ingénieur terrain est payé beaucoup plus qu'un
ingénieur au bureau. Nous ne voyons pas la différence de succès. Quand
nous n'avons pas de temps de rester avec le famille, je doute que c'est
un bon travail. Mais un point évident est que les polytechniciens ont
mis l'accent sur le valeur qu'il apporte , tandis que vous soulignez le
rémunération.

réponse à Laura et Octavian, je vourdrais d'abord dire que pour ma part
j'ai associé "travail" aux deux notions que vous avez évoquées "task"
et "job" car dans notre langue on y associe le même mot "travail" . Les
réponses "bien fait" viennent d'une expression de la langue courante
qui dit "un bon travail bien fait", l'important étant de bien faire les
choses. Pour ma part, un bon travail est un boulot pour lequel on a
envie de se lever le matin et qui nous permet de nous épanouir dans
notre vie professionnelle tout en laissant du temps pour s'épanouir
dans notre vie personnelle. En réponse à Maggie, je pense que la
salaire n'est pas forcément le meilleur critère de réussite. Je suis
assez d'accord avec Yang et je pense qu'il faut prendre en compte
d'autres critères comme la déontologie (pour moi, les requins de la
finance n'ont pas réussi) et la vie personnelle. Comment se passe votre
intégration dans le monde du travail? Avez-vous des propositions
d'embauche durant vos études?
