La montée du Front National fait très peur en France, elle fait aussi peur à nos voisins Européens. Tous les partis (de droite et de gauche) s'allient pour lutter contre ce fléau. Lors des dernières élections, il y a eu une discorde et une séparation au sein du front qui a, dans l'affaire, perdu de son importance, bonne nouvelle. On a l'habitude d'appeler le FN le F Haine.
Je tiens à dire que le FN fait, qu'on le veuille ou non, partie du paysage politique français. Il s'agit d'un parti souvent qualifié d'extremiste et peu à même d'apporter quelque progrés que ce soit à la France. Cependant le FN représente, selon moi, la France ultra conservatrice, la France profonde, rurale (mias aussi urbaine) qui se sent "chez elle" sur son territoire. Cette france existe et il ne faut pas la nier, sinon ça retombra sur les detracteurs du FN. En effet des gens isolés se renferment dans leur mode de pensée. Résultat: on avance pas! Enfin, je ne prétends pas pouvoir trouver une solution à ce genre de problème, mais il estvrai que l'on voit des affiches du FN en France ... c'est un fait. Disons qu'aux Etats-Unis il règne presque une sorte d'apartheid caché. Une fois j'ai été prendre le metro à Boston et j'étais dans un compartiment plein de noirs et vec suelement trois ou quatre blancs ... je ne sais pas si c'est significatifs mais cela m'a frappé. Il est vrai que quand on parle de melting pot, il vaudrait mieux penser à la France qu'aux Etats-Unis. En effet à Paris il n'existe pas de China Town à la mesure du China Town de San Francisco, ni de Little Italy comme à New York ni véritablement de Greek Town comme à Chicago (même s'il existe un quartier latin près de la Cathédrale Notre Dame). En France le mélange me semble plus effectif. Autre exemple, j'ai voulu aller voir un chant de Gospel à Chicago. J'ai demandé à des blancs de m'y conduire. Il n'avaient pas l'air de savoir de quoi je parlais .... LE monde des noirs semble donc coupé de celui des blancs. Remarquez, en France tout le monde ne sait pas ce qu'est une Bar Mitzvah ... L'ouverture aux cultures différentes de la sienne est parfois difficile, quel que soit le pays. Le FN représente donc la part de la France qui est inapte à s'ouvrir à ceux qui sont différents d'eux. Il y a quand même 15% des voies qui vont pour l'extrême-droite! Ce vote est si fort car il y a des votes protestataires, des votes de personnes au chômage qui en ont marre ... Cette France existe et je l'ai rencontrée. Tirez-en les conclusions que vous voudrez.
In the forum's conversations there was a general believe that the MIT students had time only to work and they did take time to have fun. It's true that an MIT student has less time than a regular student to go out and have fun, but we sometimes find our own ways to amuse ourselves. MIT has been famous for the hacks (practical jokes)that appear all of a sudden in our campus. One of the most known is when the hackers put a car of the campus police in the top of the dome. The topic of arms and guns has been mentioned in various forums. Sometimes referred to as the irony of a young man being able to carry a gun or go to war, while he can't do other things that don't require that great a moral or psicological maturity. In other forums we have mentioned how the U.S. is view as a 'world power' by the rest of the world. Maybe one of the reasons for this is its powerful military forces. I wanted to show a poster with a famous character of American history or culture, Uncle Sam. I don't know the complit story behind this character, but I know it was used to encourage people to join the military forces.

Although we rarely associate them with 'the most significant events in our lives', they are a great way to get away from the books! Below, I included a photo of my friend playing for the MIT Women's soccer team. Personally, I am a fencing fan (and thus a fencer), and so you will see some photos of the MIT fencers in action as well...

As Sylwia already mentioned, sports are definitely important here at MIT. Students enjoy competing against other schools here in the States. Are there any sports teams at the INT? Do you compete against other schools?

So here is an example of the type of music I make with my synthesizers. It is not a visual object but an audio one, so I think this is the section of the forum in which the audio document fits best. It is ain real audio but it is not live streaming. So you have to download it before playing it with Real Player G2. This is not the best example I have but it is the only one I've digitalized in my computer. I hope I will soon be able to post some pictures of the gear I have (I have to scan the pictures I took with my camera). So here it is! ( link deleted) This is not a streaming document. So you wil have to download the file. Right-click on the link and then "save the link as...". Concerning objects, one of the objects I would like to have from the US is a greencard. Indeed I would like to work and live in the US. I really love this country. Maybe finding a job for internship for next summer is a good starting point to find a permanent job in the US. I also think about making my own start-up, in the US if possible. I may also participate in the Greencard Lottery to get it. But I really prefer starting working in the US next summer. That's a better challenge.
