It seems like the Americans and French have the same idea of what the American Dream, but the French made much more reference to literature and history. For Americans it's something that they hear everyday, but for the French it's only something that they read about. Either way, both sides recognize to some extent that is overrated, and in many ways, false.

Both American and French responses seemed to view the concept of the American dream as overrated but several of the French responces were also negative or related to films and movies.

Intéressant à noter que pour les Américains, "le rêve américain" évoque une image plutôt positive et réaliste, tandis que les Français voient cela comme une utopie et quelque chose qui n'existe pas, ou qui a existé dans le passé.

Je ne pense pas qu'il y ait un Rêve français; beaucoup d'immigrés qui viennent en France ne sont là que pour attendre avant d'aller en Angleterre (problèmes à Calais). La législation n'est pas très facile pour un immigré en France je crois.

Pour nous, c'est un chapitre des livres d'histoire ou d'anglais, mais à part des histoires comme Rockfeller, je n'ai pas vraiment d'exemple...

I found it interesting that you did not mention immigrants or immigration at all. I suppose this must be because there are not as many immigrants in France. Are the laws in France kind to immigrants? Do you find that the French dislike immigrants?

There is a lot of literature dealing with the american dream. If you have time, take a look at the play Death of a Salesman or the novel The Great Gatsby

non ce n'est pas que les français n'aime pas les immigrants,excepté certains, au contraire ça a souvent un impact positif sur l'economie. la france a la réputation d'étre une terre d'accueil mais elle ne peut pas accueillir tout le monde c'est pourquoi il existe une reglementation sur l'immigration, il y a une procedure complexe pour obtenir la nationalité.

J'ai remarqué que beaucoup de français vont en amerique pour assouvir le rêve americain et beaucoup réussissent a faire fortune avec leur savoir faire français comme la boulangerie par exemple. tandisqu'en france ils ne réussissent pas. comment expliquer vous cette facilité de réussir au états unis?
