Je trouve que les réponses françaises et américaines sont, dans l'ensemble, assez semblables. Le "prototype" du parfait voisin semble donc plutôt bien défini! Mais existe-t-il vraiment ? Même si je n'ai pas à me plaindre de mes voisins, la tradition veut qu'en France le voisin soit plutôt pas sympa ! Qu'en est-il aux Etats-Unis ?

Un bon voisin:
C'est quelqu'un tape gentiment pour vous dire de faire moins de bruits plutot que de crier de chez lui.
Il n'ecoute pas de hard rock!!!ou du metal et autre conneries! Mais du rap, pourquoi pas! Mais pas trop fort, de grâce!
Il vous invite souvent à prendre un thé. IL s'informe de votre journée etc.

Does a perfect neighbor exist? I think that the question really depends on the situation. I grew up in a rather rural environment, and most families did not interact too closely with their neighbors, yet I think that we had very nice neighbors because they never played music too loudly, and they would pick-up our mail when we were out of town. At the same time we never went over to each other's houses for tea or anything. So I think we had good neighbors - but we were not that friendly with them.
Another thing which I think makes this question interesting is that many of the MIT students live in dorms. So when I think of "neighbors" i think of the college students that live next door to me. Usually people become good friends with the other students that live near them, so by those standards I think I have very good neighbors - we hang out in each other's rooms, we'll go to dinner together, we'll talk, we'll do our homework together, etc. How do most of the INT students live? In apartments? With their family? More than half of MIT's undergraduate students live in dorms. A lot of the guys live in fraternities, a few girls live in sororities, and a few people live in off-campus housing. A lot more graduate students live off campus in apartments and what not.

I can say that, while I know all of my neighbors here at school, I hardly know any around my home. How well do the French students know their at-home neighbors?

Ruth > la plupart de sétudiants de l'INT (une grande majorité des premières années et quelques deuxièmes années) vivent à la Maisel qui est une sorte de campus en fait, dans des chambres individuelles ou dans des studios pour 2 personnes en général.
Leah > Moi, personnellement, je connais très bien mes voisins, je vais assez souvent manger chez eux, mais il faut dire que ça fait longtemps que je les connais ... Et puis en plus j'habite à la "campagne", ça joue aussi je pense : j'ai vécu 2 ans dans un appart à Bordeaux et je ne peux pas dire que je connaissais bien mes voisins ! (bonjour, au revoir, quelques mots sympas dans le couloir ou dans la rue et c'est tout)
