Independence
Is it true that when you start working, it signifies your independence from your parents? What happen if you don't start working until very late in your life? What are the general ages or jobs that students in France start working?
oui c'est vrai. le debut de la vie de la vie active est synonyme d'indépendance financière. Il correspond à un tournant dans la vie d'un jeune, qui en théorie devinet capable de s'assumer entièrement.
La plupart des étudiants français commencent à travailler entre 20 et 25 ans. Certains ont des études qui durent plus longtemps comme les médecins qui eux finissent leurs études vers 30/33 ans.
Il est en règle générale pas très bien vu de poursuivre ses études (autres que des études de médecine)longtemps . Car celà prouve que la personne n'est pas prête à assumer son indépendance et qu'elle manque de maturité: on parle de mentalité "d'étudiant attardé".
Qu'en est il aux US? A quel age commence-t-on à travailler?Y a t il une notion équivalente à celle "d'étudiant attardé"?
Work & financial independence
I cannot tell you precisely what the american culture is, since I'm Thai, but I can tell you about Thai culture.
In Thailand, some of the students become financially independent when they earn their own money, although some do get extra allowance from their parents to help out with their expenses. However, they will not leave their parent's house until they get married. It's also generally understood that the newly-wed would get a lump sum money from their parents to start a new family.
As for the americans, I think most of them leave their parents' house when they earn money. I guess they're more independent than the Thai are.
