between the 3 men

Discussion

I think the French version shows the deeper emotional connection to the baby. If the guys are sad immediately, it may be seen as a temporary fixation on the baby. They adored the baby without any real thought. People become connected to others just because they are in their lives, not because only of any deep connection. I think the fact that the men didn?t become depressed until later shows that there certainly was the deep connection. They certainly weren?t lonely. It also shows that they desired the baby?s company despite the difficulties associated with her. They wanted desperately to be rid of them, but realized that didn?t really matter in the end. This is less exaggerated in the American version due to the fact that they got along with their lives pretty easily with the baby. It didn?t even seem to create much stress in their relationships with each other or other people. In the French version, they?re losing women, friends and having problems with each other.

I agree with Corinne on this point. I think this same tendency for the men to not share their emotions comes out in the way they deal with the baby. In the French film, whenever one of the men is playing with the baby in a sentimental way, he gets embarassed when the other men see him. Do you think this was exaggerated or was it a true reflection of French culture?

Hi!
I really liked the way french men quarelled with each other. They were so sincere in their emotions and these scenes were shown very realisticly. It is very interesting to know whether French people express their emotions as 'sincerely' and 'brightly' (especially in debates:)) in their everyday life.

At class we came to the same conclusion as did Benoit. Examples with waiting in a line and smoker in a non-smoking place absolutely confirm these observations. I've also noticed this on practice: in the lines at the airport, in a shop people very politely ask if the person stood there before or they just don't say anything at all.

Dear natasha and corinne,

Whe i look at the relation between one of the three men (peter, jack, mic) and the police, it seems to me that in the french version they are
much more agressive with the policemen, do you think that it shows
less respect for the authority in the frecnh culture ? if not how do you justufy this actitude?? is it normal at france or is just a characteristic of the movie?
