Discussion

I noticed that the American students and Chinese students both put similar words for christmas, like holidays, presents, santa, and religion. Since Christmas is so commercialized and well known as a time of gift giving, I think that the idea of the holiday has spread to Chinese culture; so Chinese students are also familiar with the holiday.

The Americans focused more on the fun things about Christmas like presents and holiday break. The Chinese students paid more attention to the traditional interpretation of the holiday. I wonder if the Chinese students learned about Christmas from the movies?

We celebrate Christmas here on December 25th. We also consider our ‘new year’ to be on January 1st and we only celebrate on that day. Christmas is in the winter for us because it is in December. In countries closer to the equator it is actually warm during Christmas!
