Discussion
Whoever described "école" using the words républicaine,
chance, inégalités, could you explain why you associate
inégalités with the républicaine school system? If all
school are public, then how do the inequalities arise?
Is it a matter of the quality of the public school
system in each a
En France, même si le système scolaire est public, il
subsiste de graves inégalités entre les différentes
écoles, en particulier dans les
banlieues.
I think the same thing can be found in most countries.
For example, about 95% of my (public) high school's
graduates go to university, while a school just 20
minutes away, in a poor area, releases almost no
students who go on to secondary education. It has a
large percentage of African Americans, Mexicans and
other unpriviledged groups, while our school has always
been mostly white and Asian. Economic differences will
always create social inequalities and different
opportunities.
