Discussion

Bonjour

Bye

Is "le coucours" a national exam? Does everyone take the same exam or does it depend on your "ecole preparatoire"? If your coucours exam was misgraded, whom would you talk to?

Fabrice, I think it's really interesting that you think that we would be less likely to do anything about it. I thought just the opposite -- for instance, one of the French responses was "j'ai eu la note que je méritais". Another response said that it depends on the professeur. But it seems like almost all of the American responses said they would go talk to the professeur. Also, I don't think that this really has too much to do with respect for the professeur, or at least I hope that a professeur would not think it disrespectful if you asked about why you got a certain grade. Do you think it would offend a professeur?

On a side note, if I had a problem with my grade, in the majority of my classes, it would not be a professeur I was dealing with, but a graduate student. Most of my classes have a main lecturer (professeur) and then a graduate teaching assistant, who teaches the recitation. How do your classes work?

Yesterday, I got the ethics paper back that I wrote for my Naval Science class. It did not think that the grade reflected the content, so I spoke to the Lieutenant. Come to find out, he did not grade them as he read them. He realized that he gave me the wrong grade. See? Had I not said anything, my overall effort in the class would have been tainted. He's human. He made a mistake, and I believe that I should be able to approach a professor when I am concerned about my own performance.
