Discussion

----Both students in America and France noticed that money is piece of metal or a green paper that leads to materialism (although necessary). They also agree that money is the source of power , freedom , independance , as well as the root of evil , crime , corruption and social problems . Money is the sign of luxury , wealth , success and prestige . The reactions seem to differ a little bit about the ways of spending money . While the Americans approach this issue from materialistic point of view (buying foods , clothes etc. ) , French are a liitle bit more original . They think about vacations , traveling and I am prety sure that French know how to spend earned money with more joy than Americans do . ----Rados R

----Though both American and French students generally associated money with freedom and power and material goods, the American students seem to have more of a negative view of it. American students associated money with corruption and evil more than the french students. Perhaps we're all reminded of the high cost of education, the price we must pay to attend college. Money is more of a prevalent problem in the United States. The difference among the classes are visible.

----It is interesting to note that the students in France and America said that money led to corruption. This is a question for the students in France. When you graduate will you be looking for a job that pays the most money or one that will give you the most enjoyment?

I am just interested how do young people in France spend their money . And are you going to spend a lot of time and money next summer during World Cup ? Thanks

----For the Sup'Aero students: ----Do you think that the high-level of unemployment in France creates an atmosphere in which money/wealth is idealized?

----I think it's interesting to note that many Americans equate money with EVIL. Also, in class, somebody pointed out that the French saw "argent" as something tangible...so they used words like "piece", "monnaie", etc. The Americans see money as more of a concept, so hardly any of our words had to do with tangible things. It's an interesting difference to point out!

----Most of the americans described the american dollar (it's color, the name of a president on it etc) whereas the french did not mention the franc at all. On the other hand, the french mentioned gold and other forms of money. I get the impressoin that the franc is not as important to the french as the dollar is to the americans. Is that so and why? ----

----It was interesting that someone listed carte de credit. Usually one thinks that American use credit cards more often-is there much use of credit cards in France nowadays?

----I noticed that the French did only mention "dollar" as the only currency. Why did they not write "franc" ? Or "pounds"? Does this mean that thay think of the dollar as the strongest currency?
