Beaucoup de choses à dire au sujet des mots associés à "socialisme" !!!

Tout d'abord, on remarque chez les américains une forte connotation négative (failure, fear, bad, ...), voire même un rejet total et sans conditions (no, no clue, ?). Du coté des Français par contre, je n'ai remarqué aucune association à connotation négative. Il est amusant de remarquer par exemple qu'un Français a répondu "bien" tandis qu'un Américain a répondu "bad" !!! Toutefois, certaines réponses provenant des Etats-Unis sont tout à fait dans l'esprit des réponses françaises.

Something that you Americans must explain me : why did you link "socialism" to "individualism" whereas for me and other Fench people, it is just the contrary : "solidarité", "partage"... I almost asked the same question for the answer "injustice", but I eventually understand why you associated it : socialism -> communism -> Staline -> dictatorship -> injustice. Hehe... it's so simple to associate a word with its opposite ;-)

La différence intéressante entre les Américains et les Français sur ce point est que pour nous le Socialisme fait parti de notre paysage politique (il existe un parti socialiste dont vous avez certainement entendu parler puisque actuellement le premier ministre Lionel Jospin appartient à ce parti), alors que pour vous cela semble plutôt lié au communisme et à la Russie. Est-ce que pour vous le socialisme est vraiment une idée extremiste, et utopique?

Encore des problèmes. la seul chose que vous connaissez du socialisme, c'est le communisme. Du calme! La France est actuellement gouvernée par des socialistes, et on est encore en démocratie! Il ne faut pas tout confondre. You are too distant from it, and that's why it seems so frightening. Try to understand before answering "no". Même si on ne partage pas les même opinions, je ne pense pas qu'il faille éxecuter tout le monde!

Bon,bon alors la politique ce n'est pas mon fort, mais je trouve les réponses assez intéressantes alors pourquoi me priver d'un petit commentaire. Si vous voulez un petit rappel historique sur le socialsme en France(et peut-être aussi sur ce qu'est la différence entre socialisme et communisme),demandez-moi,je le ferai volontiers.

Nous avons un régime un peu bizarre en France moitié socialiste avec notre premier ministre moitié de droite avec le président et les avis sont partagés.C'est pourquoi certains parlent de compromission d'autres de solidarité, chacun selon ses choix politiques... Les français aiment bien la polémique.

Vous ne semblez pas très convaincu par ce régime politique, vous en avez presque tous une vision négative et surtout très proche de ce qu' était le communisme,c'est surement du à la guerre froide .Mais le socialisme en France, en Angleterre et en Allemagne est très différent aujourd'hui(et ca n'est pas si inéfficasse)

Sinon puisque l'on parle de politique, j'aimerai bien connaitre votre réaction sur l' affaire Clinton.Merçi d'avance.

Pour nous, cela nous renvoie à un parti politique et à tout ce que cela implique (cf politique/politics) Pour vous, c'est avant tout une doctrine, n'est-ce pas?

As some people remarked above, there is a small problem if terminology here. The reason Americans associate socialism with communism is that most of the former

communist

countries in the East Bloc used the two terms interchangably. The fact that

socialism

had a very different meaning in Western Europe and Scandinavia was overshadowed by the usage of the former enemies of the US.

Still, I think it is fair to say that

in general

people here are opposed to socialism (the Western kind), although there are great differences on this between Republicans and Democrats (right- and left of center political parties here). It is enough to look at health care, gun control etc. to realize that the US holds different political values from socialists. But it does not warrant the outrage demonstrated in the questionnare, that can only stem from confusion (or different usage) of terminology.

The MIT answers strongly reflect the feelings of most Americans when they hear the word socialism. Here, socialism=communism. That scares people because they hate to think that they might have to pay more taxes or share their savings with someone else less fortunate than themselves.

Unfortuantely, very few people understand the meaning of Western Socialism as it applies to France, Germany, England, etc. Socialism does not apply to the economy of these countries at all since i think they are capitalistic and democratic societies like the US. However health care for example is available to all people as are other government services regardless of financial state, so that everyone is properly taken care of.

I wonder if people from Feel that only the rich people in the United States live well, while everone else is forgotten....
